Would you filter a British IPA?

Sun Sep 27, 2009 10:55 am

So, after listening to the lagering episode a couple months ago, the BIGGEST take away I have from it is that filtering reduces aging time.

I have a British IPA that is 3 weeks in the fermenter today and I want to serve it in 2 weeks. I like the "chewiness" of the british beers and don't want to lose it through filtering but I want to "fake age" it, at the same time.

What do you think?

I have never filtered any beers, but I too appreciate the nice malt background of some british 2-row. Most english yeast strains I have used tend to drop out and leave a fairly clear beer already. Do you really need to filter it? Is it overly hazy or cloudy? Why not just cold-condition it until it clears up?

Well, I would do that but I'm serving it in 2 weeks. I don't mind hazy British beers at all.
