SF - East Bay Beer Release

Wed Aug 26, 2009 11:26 pm

I don't get any enjoyment out of knowing that most of the people who watch this forum can't come to this event but I have to post this so those that can, know about it. I apologize if this seems like gratuitous self promotion but I've had these kind of events before and nothings worse than running into someone later who didn't know about it. This Friday 8/28/09, at 6PM, EJ Phair will be pouring an Imperial version of my Janet's Brown Ale that I brewed at Russian River Brewing Company for the 2009 GABF ProAm competition. It's 7.5%, 60 IBU, malty, and hopped with Northern Brewer/Cascade. Come check it out. It's my most often brewed recipe and I know many of you have brewed it. I sincerely appreciate that.

So the Russian River brew isn't the original version of Janet's Brown Ale?

Hey Code, can you fix this so JP can't see this thread? I know Tasty didn't mean "everyone".

:)

Wish I could be there, Mike!

That's correct. I added sugar (2.7%) and more base malt to get raise it from 1.066 to 1.075 OG. It won in 2004 but has failed to get out of the first round since then. It was just too big for the 10c category so rather than make it smaller, I made it bigger and it returned as a gold medal winner in the Specialty Beer category as an Imperial American Brown. I probably should have changed the name but that didn't seem right. I actually prefer the original.

Hey Tasty, I'll be in NorCal the weekend after this event. Will the beer be available anywhere else?

It should still be on tap at RRBC, maybe some left at the Trappist after the Thursday event, and it should be on tap at the Toronado. Check with me in a week and I'll know what's going on. I'm getting a 15.5 today. :)

Getting a 15.5 of your own beer has got to be an awesome feeling! I so wish I could be there to enjoy the evening with you guys. In fact... just to boost your ego a little more Tasty, my second AG brew was your Janet's Brown because my wife loves brown ales and hoppy beers - perfect fit. Just cracked open the first bottle yesterday and she LOVES it (I love it too, but having her happy with it makes life easier).

Cheers!!

Why does the poster make me feel that this is going to be a 3 day festival event held at the Cow Palace? Or Winterland?

I will be in Oregon the 28th dropping #2 son off at college.

edit - whoops - I'm in Oregon in September - this thing is tomorrow.
