Well, I did.

Ordered a March pump today. I spent ages mucking around with the aquarium pump trying to stop the minor leaks and got fed up. I'll probably use it elsewhere but the March will get most use.

I've now got a couple of weeks to come up with an excuse for getting it as I wait until the pump arrives. The supplier has had a run on them (end of financial year).

You can use the aquarium pump to push ice water through the IC, which is what I do.

I first use just tap water, then I switch to recirculating ice water through the chiller and back into a bucket. This allows me to get to lager pitching temps even in the heat of summer (100F +).
I hope my post helped in some way. If not, please feel free to contact me.

I mild swirling is what I achieved with my new March pump the first time I used it (no vortex). My pickup tube was probably constricting flow some though (copper tubing & SS scrubby near the edge of the keg kettle) with a pileup of whole hops on the scrubby. I have a whole bunch of leaf hops to use up, but this weekend I'll be using just pellets in order to test the system further.

It did cool pretty well though.

Not sure if I'll need ice at the moment. Our tap water is running at around 12C now. :) Summer will be a little different though.

So you're going to chill the 20degC water via the chiler then pass that through the IC, yes ?

I've got one of the mashmaster digital temp controllers. Fantastic little gadget. Bloody tiny little thing and the price just can't be beaten. Highy recommended.
