Brewing with the Cousin, any tips?

Mon Apr 27, 2009 9:30 am

At a fundraiser over the weekend, I was asked about brewing a batch with the cousin, and thought before I even try, there must be some information available within the forum which could help me in this effort (if I was to do this, not saying that I would).
Some of the questions are the following:
How much might be needed for a 5 gallon batch (and the cousin strength)?
How might it be used (@ 60 minutes in boil, first wort, etc)?
Base beer style (I would want the flavors to be balanced)?
Hope to hear from some of the experienced soon.
Take care,

not an expert by any means, but i'm pretty sure THC is soluble in alcohol so if you put anything in while its hot youre just gonna volatilize any goodness and lose/waste it. i would dryhop with it, so the already present alcohol could do its job. I would make a regular beer, maybe APA type style. i'm sure others who have tried this could chime in with better info, i.e. how much to dry hop.

I've heard a good method is to do a vodka infusion with the cous and add the liquid to the secondary, keg or bottling bucket. Apparently doing it this way reduces the vegetal flavors that can accompany it but still achieve the psychoactive effects. This is what I have read not what I've done so maybe someone will chime in with some experience.

Thanks for the link to the same inquiry late last year. I did search the topic, but I guess I wasn't patient enough to go through the 6 pages of "cousin" references. Also, the article, linked in the previous thread was very interesting and helpful. Now I need to find-out how serious was this request, and what are they willing to use.

P.S. You got to love Michael Jackson going back for more of the "Brain Death", he is truely missed in the beer community. Perhaps he and Bill Brand have disussed this beer resently.
