+1. As a note, all conicals (professional grade included) are designed to have 10-20% head space when filled to the rated capacity. I've even seen 15bbl batches go into 30bbl fermenters without issue.

Same here... I ferment 5g in 6-6.5 carboys. The CO2 pushes the air out (or the yeast uses it up) anyway. Just don't store already fermented beer with that much headspace.
