Re: Help with first brew

I think I may be over reacting a bit. I just went back and read the Fermentation chapter in Palmers booka dn see that 3-4 days is normal for primary fermentation. The only mistake I made was shaking the carboy when I mixed in the sugar which mixed the crud on the top all back into the beer which it says may make it bitter.

If using a clarifier, will this help with this?

Thanks

I am probably over-reacting as I am treating this like my first child, but is has been a great initial learning experience.

Relax, don't worry....fermentation is still happening, just leave it for another week. I was checking my first brew so often my wife suggested I put a baby monitor next to it so I could hear it bubbling all night.

Yeah, I am sure I am overdoing it, but it's so much fun. First thing when I get up and last thing before going to bed plus inbetween. I did read through some of How To Brew and although I had read the chapters before a lot of it didn't stick. Now that I am going through it hands on, it is all making more sense to feel and touch as I go.

Thanks everyone

Glad you're enjoying it, as a semi-new brewer myself I know the feeling.

Don't worry, that's all you will ever need. Water, a big kettle, some hops, some malt, and a thermometer, and some yeast..........oh yeah and a hydrometer, that's all you need..........oh and some bottles, wait, maybe some kegs and a kegerator..........oh and a wort chiller........and some friends to enjoy your hard work!!!!

My second batch (Kolsch) is now resting and I was within 4 points on both ends so much better than the first batch. I went back and looked at the money I spent the last 4 months getting ready to brew and I should have just bought a brew sculpture I think. I love the gadgets and building things though so this is much more fun.
