First NZ Brew

I'm making my first batch today since I have been in New Zealand. It will have 3.3 pounds of amber LME and 2.2 pounds of white clover honey so it's a braggot really I guess. I will be boiling 14 quarts and it will have a final volume of 16 quarts which should have an OG of 1.050. I will be adding a small handful of NZ Green Bullet hops (12%aa) at 60 mins and another small handful at 5 mins. I will be pitching 2 packets of black rock yeast (It's a NZ homebrew supply company). I think this yeast will work because it usually comes in those kit and kilo kits where you add a bunch of sugar.

I'd suggest a cup or so of maltodextrin powder or some carafoam malt in that, or you'll end up with a pretty thin brew. Braggots can get thin if you don't have enough dextrins in the bill.

Oh, and measure your "small handful" of hops. An oz of 12% hops at 60mins can turn an APA into that "tweener" land between APA and IPA. Run the numbers and be careful not to overdo it. An oz of pellets is pretty small volume wise.

Good Luck!

LBHS has neither of those. If it turns out really bitter I might just blend it with the local domestic stuff for something drinkable. The beer here is weak in bitterness, alcohol, and hop flavor so I guess I made something opposite.

I ran the numbers. The LBHS I got the hops from stores them at room temperature and it doesnt seem to be a very popular store so according to promash it could be anywhere between 8% and 12% aa. I estimate that I put in between 1/2 and 1 oz in at 60 minutes so that would give a final IBU count between 23 and 67. It is very precise as you can see.
