FG for an IPA partial mash?

Wed Oct 29, 2008 6:57 am

Wondering if anyone can tell me what the FG should be on an IPA. Had a OG of 1.070. After 1 week i am down to 1.030 and fermentation is done.

Sounds a little high to me. I think the upper range of final gravity is 1.020. Might let it sit a week or two and see if you can get the FG down further.

Hi Brewmax,
Looks like about 57% attenuation, even with extract you should be able to get down to around 1.020.
If the FG does not budge, try giving the carboy a swirl, but not shake in order to get some yeast bake into suspension. Also try raising it 3-4 degrees as well.
Good luck.

What temperature did you ferment at? Have you had any change in temperature? If you fermented on the low side, lets say... 63 degrees F, and it dropped down to 59 one cool night... that could pause fermentation. I would go with Fritz Eye's suggestion and bring your temperature up a few degrees. Good luck.
