Plate chillers without a pump

Anyone use a Shirron or Therminator plate chiller without a pump? I know they can be used in a gravity feed system, but was hoping to hear some first hand experience.

I think it was the dude from hopstopper that had mentioned using a thermonator with gravity feed. Its somewhere on this website. Look for posts by tnlandsailor.

I know BeerPal uses a thermonator, and I think he uses a gravity feed. Shoot him a PM

I just used a shirron chiller in a gravity-fed configuration on Sunday and it worked fine. You are going to have a little wort left in your lines after the transfer but it's no more than expected.

As long as you don't grab it when it tips over and burn the shit out of yourself ( yes, talking from experience) you should be fine!

I use the Shirron chiller and I gravity feed with no problems. Just use pot holders when touching the chiller during and after running hot wort through it (also the voice of experience).

Obey gravity. It's the law.

I made up a home-made wort wizard and I get just about every drop out of my shirron chiller/kettle.

I'll get a pic of it next time I brew, if you are interested. I built the whole thing with about 10 dollars in parts.
