Cooler Style Mash Tun Copper Manifold Question

In prepairing to go all grain I have constructed the standard cooler style mash/lauter tun with a copper manifold with slots cut at intervals.

Has anyone considered pointing the slots downward? It seems to me this would reduce dead space, but I'm not sure what the effect would be logistically. Any thoughts?

I am suprised anyone has considered pointing them up. Down is the only way I have ever seen or heard of them pointing.

On the last one I made, I used a cutoff disk on a dremel tool. Made short work of the slots. Also, run a rat tail file down the tube when you are done to remove the burs that will trap all sorts of crud.

Thanks guys. That's what I thought. I guess most of the photographs I've seen for these manifolds had the slots (not slits, Lufah, you F'ing pervert) pointing up to show the handiwork of the maker. As I make my move to all-grain I'll be counting on you losers for a lot of advise. Be there or flufah.

I am here for ya rich with the lil all grain experience i have. I have read up on it alot. But after doing my first one and the stuck mash i knew about running water in it but I forgot when the pressure was on. I am hear and will help anyway I can!
