Meeting other BN'ers and other future BN'ers

So today I went to the Cascade Brewer's Cup event where we announced the winners and tasted a bunch of reallly nice beers from several breweries (and a meadery) in the PAC NW.

I wore my BN hoodie and was happy as hell to meet Tavish and LucyBear, as well as another BN'er (who's last name I do remember and it begins with an H, but he lurks, never posts, and so I don't remember his online name at all - sorry H). The Hop Grenade also brought about several other conversations (including with a couple of hot chicks - a rarity for a fat old married fuck like me). Bottom line, I ended up spending most of the day tasting beers with LucyBear and H as well as a few other folks and overall I had a great time.

There were a lot of really good beers, but the ones that I thought really stood out head and shoulders above the crowd were:
1) The Redhook Belgian Trippel (fucking awesome - biggest, best surprise of the show, I want a LOT MORE, and I was NOT the only one to say this),
2) The Harmon Sasquatch Stout(<=== SHAT TAKE NOTICE),
3) The Lagunitas Lucky 13,
4) The Oskar Blues Old Chub (Scottish Ale), and last but by no means least,
5) The Georgetown Brewing 9lb Porter - one of best porters I've tasted in a while. Smooth, chocolatey goodness. I had about 4 of them.

Anyways- it was great to meet these guys in person. I now have a few new beer geek friends out here. Thanks, BN

Sounds like a great festival. I noticed you really liked Oskar Blues Old Chub, this is a perfect example of people having different tastes as I cannot finish a pint of that stuff. Way too sweet and thick for me. It tastes to me like it did not ferment out. I have not had many heavy Scottish ales, so I am not sure if that is true to style.

BDawg was in his finest... You're a great statesman for homebrewers. And he's right, there were quite a few ladies there, that know there way around a good beer!

The Joe's vs Pro's was a good touch, with blind tasting of commercial vs homebrew. No shock here, the homebrew 'won' over what turned out to be Blackhook. the homebrew was a tasty RIS.

As with BDawg, I thought the Triplett Triple was mighty tasty, hope they bring more innovation to the taps at Forecaster Pub.
