The festival was awesome. Alaska is an amazing place and feels like you are on another planet. The Sun rises late and sets early. The brewing community supports great beer. The Great Northern Brewers homebrew Club had an event with Sam from Dogfish Head. There were a number of brewers from the "lower 48" and it was great to hangout with them. Dick Cantwel from Elysian Brewing in Seattle, Eric Warner from Left Hand Brewing, Sam from Dogfish head. There were brewery reps from Deutsches Brewing and Stone. Tom from the Celebrator was there. The Midnight Sun owners and brewers are great people and producing some amazing beer. They have the Seven Deadly Sins line of beers that will blow you away. Imperial IPA, Belgian strong beers, barrel aged beers. There is a place called Humpy's that has a fantastic beer selection that is similar in many ways to Falling Rock in Denver. The brewpub scene is great with local favorites including the Sleeping Lady, which not only has great beers of their own like their pale ale which is canned (that's right cans), but, they also have one of the most awesome Belgian beer lists I have ever seen.
The Glacier Brewhouse is another great spot with phenomenal food and is packed every night. At the festival there were a couple of BNers. Chaaz (sp?), was there who is a great guy and we tossed back several beers. The local distributor Odem took great care of us and we'll be definitely be back again next year and hope to hope to be distributing our beer by then as well.
I highly recommend that if you can get to this festival you should. Nico, Stef and I had a great time. It is one of my top five beer festivals and the best part is that I didn't get sick, no pneumonia.
