Re: BNA 8 Critique

I thought it was cool. It was even better when all the tards left right after getting there because it was "too crowded". My only thing was maybe next year if the busses have tvs like they did for BNA8, that Adam and Eve could sponsor them and show some of the free DVDs they offer.

the beer selection didn't impress me, but I sure had plenty of it.

maybe my enjoyment happened because I showed up to it half trashed.

This was my first BN party and I had a blast. It was over sold and too crowded but I did get my fanboy on and say hi to Tasty, Justin, Push, and Jamil (he is not as approachable as I would have thought). The crowd made it tough to meet others and get beer. The fact that a ton of us were not allowed in the upstairs bar until the VIP's were done sucked. That forced everyone downstairs. Next time end the VIP on time or keep it to one section not two.

The World Cafe Live is a cool place and I'm sure cost a small fortune to rent out so I can see why so many tickets were sold but I gladly would have paid $75 for less crowd.

The crowd plus not having access to all the beers listed would have made this event so-so if not for School of Rock. I was blown away and humbled by those kids. That alone was worth the price of admission!

Overall great job and fun time! Keep crowds smaller next time and ticket prices higher for a more enjoyable event.

You are the third person I heard say that!

Still love the guy, and everything he's done for homebrewing though!!!!

I know I would be a total dick with everyone coming up to me and acting like we were best friends, so I understand where he is coming from!

This was my 6th BNA Party and every one has been billed as a kick-ass party with rock bands and great beer. All 6 have delivered as billed. All 6 have had areas where one could escape the music and talk without yelling. All 6 have had logistical problems. All 6 have had improvements from prior years. All 6 have been great experiences that I'll never forget shared with people that I'll never forget.

Things that would improve everyone's experience at BNAs or similar events:
Don't talk while the band is playing, it's rude to the band and the person can't hear you anyway. Exceptions are short ejaculations such as: Awesome, Nice, Woohoo, Groovy, Boss, Rad, Suck it Schuman, and Yeah!
If possible order by pointing to a list or holding up fingers if the beers are numbered.
Order fast, get your beer and move the fuck away from the bar (I can dream)!
If the beer is free and you think there's something amiss, don't discuss it with the server - just pour it out. If it's bad enough, find a supervisor.
If you are miserable, chances are you'll want to find people that agree with you. Misery does indeed love company, so leave.
If you have a idea that can improve future events, email the appropriate person.

See ya'll at BNA9,
Tat

+1, though not first hand...heard this from a good source that has met him several times!
Hey, he and Palmer and the BN crew are our cause celeb, but you gotta figure they get so friggin tired of smilin and shaken hands, being approachable on que. The ironic thing of it is that he actually, on several shows, encourages people to approach him? But, hey can you imagine what that guy has on his plate. Family, Brewery, BN demands, all kinds of demands on his time.

Counter to the old Cheers tune, I bet he would love to find a place where no one knows his name. :)

yes, that was not a complaint about Jamil, just an observation based on how everyone else from Tasty, to John Blichmann, to John Palmer are.

I agree, it has to be exhausting for him. Especially out here in Philly where he is not selling his beer. Wonder how many times he heard THAT question in 3 days!!??

I thought BNA8 was awesome, yes it was crowded, yes it was loud, and yes there were long beer lines at the beginning. But it was awesome. I was able to find a quiet spot to talk when I needed to, I found some awesome beers after the initial crush at opening, and the free flowing Moonlight Mead was phenomenal. It's been hard to hear the bands at past BNAs but this venue made the bands the centerpiece. Trophy Fire was great, 4 Friends and Sam was better than a Nikobrew urinal cake, and the School of Rock was mindblowingly the rockingest show I've seen in a long time. And Blobber got me super trashed on Saison. All that makes for a great BNA
