Thinking about competing - Have some questions.

Mon Dec 11, 2006 9:38 am

So, I have brewed about a dozen batches now, and thanks to the BN and there guests, my beer is getting to be pretty good, at least to me. I think that I would like to start entering some competitions here and there to get some serious feedback.

First question: Can I just enter any old competition, in any state? Do I have to be a member of a club? Is it as easy as just sending my beer with the proper application and entry fees?

Second question: Where can I find a list, or does a list exist, of all the competitions in America?

Thanks!

You can enter any competition you like... Competitions are a great way to get feed back about your beers.

Check out Beertown.org for BJCP sanctions competitions.

I could not find a list of competitions at Beertown.org. Do you have a specific link?

Try this one for a start:
http://www.bjcp.org/apps/comp_schedule/competition_schedule.php

Beertown links over to the AHA (American Homebrewer's Association). If you're not a member, join up. It's a great resource and right now I think you can get Palmer's book FREE of you sign up.

As for clubs, you do NOT need to be a member to compete unless it is a club only competition, and it would say so. I enter my "club" as TBN.

Good luck!

Yep, unless otherwise specified. I think the Queen of Beers comp was limited to the ladies (and maybe Justin and the other Lunch Meeters)
