whoops, sorry, not sure how i missed that. good point about the two bottle requirement decreasing the number of entries. hopefully we'll get to find out next year how much of an impact it has.

Not 1500, when you require 2 bottles we are all predicting a reduction in entries, so that 1500 would likely be more like 1200. Now how about adding a dollar to the fee and providing BJCP certified judges partial travel reimbursement or better swag. Now the higher cost will draw less entries (maybe 800 to 1000 bottles) and more qualified judges. You probably select for better entries in most cases, you influence would-be judges to get BJCP certified, you draw more judges into judging...maybe a few things should be changed.

Now I am sure we will hear whining about cost of shipping two bottles, paying extra, etc...As far as I am concerned I am willing to pay an extra $8 for the entries I sent...maybe another 5-10 for the shipping of two bottles. I also like to have a backup in case you somehow don't cap a bottle right or have a buggy bottle. A few extra dollars address several issues.

Just got my scores from Denver this morning. Unfortunately none of mine made the second round. :( On the other hand, the competition must have been really good. My strong scotch ale scored a 43 and didn't advance. A 43 would have won most of the competitions I have entered in the past.

Congrats to those who did advance.

Its the Mini BOS that can make a higher score get kicked out. I think I've heard as high as a 46 getting removed during mini BOS. The competition is so large though that there could be multiple sets of judges for any one category so its the only logical way to break things down. Congrats though. 43 is a damn nice score. I appreciate the judges that are working (and drinking) hard to get these beers judged. Still have my fingers crossed for a few of my beers.

Same in the NE. From what is being said, it wasn't very organized and there is something like 230 entries in 10 categories left to judge.

Hope my beer isn't sitting open on a shelf somewhere

I heard that in the NE region, judges sat down to judge a category that was split up over a couple of tables. 10pm on saturday came around that the people that owned the building pretty much kicked out the judges. They came back on sunday and finished the category. Well for the mini-BOS, some of the entries were open for 10 hours and the organizers didn't have anything to recap bottles with...

Got my comp sheets from SD back last week. Congrats to EagleDude bested my 40 point Belgian Blond that went on to mini-BOS. But my Belgian Specialty - Cistercian Single, a 4% table beer, took Silver in 16E and is moving on! I was also impressed by the quality of feedback and quick response for the 6 other entries that did not.

This is my first year entering NHC Comp. I'm really happy with the large competition. It's a feeling of accomplishment with such big fields.

The only thing missing from my comp sheets is the number the beer was in the flights.

I got back my results from Madison today.

Took second place in Belgian Specialty with my idea of an Orval Clone. Also took third in light lager with a Munich Helles (Co brewed with Tom Malowski). Also had part of a Belgian Blond entered by my friend Tom Malowski that took second in Begian Strong Ales. Tom also took first in Belgian strong Ales with a Belgian Dark Strong. :pop :pop
