But it seems like to me the owner is setting himself up for some legal problems if certain government people were to get wind of the way he is getting them and re-selling them in a business. Wasn't it in Pennsylvania this past spring where a bunch of Pliny the Younger was destroyed by the feds because the owners didnt go through the "proper" channels of getting it for re-sale?
I hope they get away with it because nobody is making money off of grey market Westvleteren, they are just trying to do something cool for their customers.
I ran into a phenomenal Belgian B&B in Quebec. The owners were Belgian and bought their two cases of Westvleteren every year when they went on vacation and sold it (for like $12 a bottle IIRC). There is nothing wrong there. No greed or anything, just trying to share something cool.
They also taught me how to eat mussels like a Belgian.
I hope somewhere in Belgium someone who visits the Bay area once a year is selling hand carried bottles of Pliny to people who appreciate it.
