Yuengling

I think the people at Yuengling should be considered heros. Not only is the Yuengling brewery the oldest brewery in America, but most important, it's the only cheap beer I have ever been able to find that has any beer-taste what-so-ever. Not to mention it is sold at the primarily AB only stores pretty much anywhere on the east coast now-a-days (as far as I can tell). I just want to know what all of you think of Yuengling...

I live about 20-30 minutes from the Yuengling brewery and I see the beer everywhere I turn. In college I thought it was the greatest thing in the world but now I don't even think about buying it.
One thing that really pisses me off is how people (bartenders and waitresses included) will refer to it as "lager", not Yuengling Lager, like it is the only lager on the planet. If you go to a bar in Northeastern PA you could ask for Lager and thats what they will bring you.

I heard that Yuengling even copywrited the term Lager for their beer. Is that true?

I think its not so bad that you see them everywhere you turn. Yuengling isn't the best beer but it beats the hell out of BMC shit. All I'm saying is I would be much happier to see Yuengling everywhere then to see budweiser everywhere.

I just spent a four day business trip in Charleston, SC and the only beer in the gas stations where we stopped that was not your standard macro was Yuengling or Palmetto. I tried the Yuengling because, being from the midwest, I had never heard of it before, and it was a black and tan pre-bottled as one which is different.

Disgusting.

It is definetly the first and last time I try this beer. It was like drinking somebody's attempt to soup-up budweiser. I think when left with a choice between Yuengling and macro's, I'll buy Blatz next time.

Keep in mind that the further away you go from PA, the less fresh the beer is. I live a couple hours from the brewery (have all my life) and I am one of the "violators" who calls it "Lager." If you want something else, ask for it by name. It's the oldest Brewery in the Country, so they deserve a little respect.

A few years back Yuengling expanded their operation to get the beer to more people and increase sales. They were unsatisfied with the quality sacrifice it caused, and they scaled back because of it (or at least, that's the legend.) I respect the crap out of that.

If you find Yuengling Lager outside of PA, NJ and DE, chances are it's been around a while. But if your ever in Southeastern PA, South Jersey or DE and it's on tap, try it. It's MUCH better than BMC...

I've had 'Lager' in NY and Black n Tan in Virginia. I don't think they sell Yuengling here in CT which is fine by me. I think it's a sub-par beer at best. Definitely better than the macro-swill beer, but nothing I'll buy again.
