Form vs. Function

Tue Jan 13, 2009 5:47 pm

Ok... I have a dilemma with my new drip tray. It is only 5" deep. My taps are mounted on a piece of 3/4" thick piece of trim on the outside of the freezer.

I have two choices on how I mount the tray - on top of the trim, or behind it. If I mount it behind it, it's nice and flush with the freezer surface - but the drips from the taps barely fall into the tray (they hit maybe 3/4" back from the rim). If I mount the tray on top of the trim - the drips fall in the center of the tray - but it looks like ass, and is more flimsy.

See the photos below for a "mock up".

What would you do?

It's pretty simple. Just cut a piece of 3/4" plywood or other filler stock the same size as the back of your drip tray. Mount the tray on the plywood and mount both to the front of your kegerator. This centers the faucet drips and solves the flimsy problem.

Don't listen to Bug, you've ruined the whole damn kegerator you asshat. Send the garbage freezer and all to me, and I'll get it recycled for you. You'll have to start all over from scratch.

Oooh! I think somewhere a brewer shed a tear.

Sorry Bug, but Mylo, you can still send it to me...

FWIW, I went wit the flush mount. It looked to good. I does catch the drips and I have a real foamy pour, I can rest the beer under the tap to settle. That's all I bought it for anyway. It looks badass...

You have forward seal faucets, why do you have a foamy pour?
