My first competition...

Tue Feb 26, 2008 7:48 am

Keystone Hops Homebrew Club had their 13th Annual War of the Worts competition this past Saturday. It was held at Iron Hill Brewery's North Wales, PA location.

Thanks to prodding from The Brewing Network, this would be my first competition. I entered a Hefeweizen and a California Common. The hefe took second out of 16 entries! (Competition results...)

The hefeweizen was only my 3rd all-grain batch and 7th batch ever. Can't wait to get my score sheets back. Thanks to the BN for all the knowledge I've gained!

Congrats, man!

You're an inspiration to me, a new homebrewer.

In Philly there is a craft brewery called Nodding Head that has competitions quite frequently. You should enter in a few of those. I'm going to do some homework and see what how/what I need to do.

Let me know if you ever make it down this way.
Ideating - Kolsch, Hefeweizen, Raspberry Wheat
Primary - Chocolate Stout 1.5
Secondary - None.
Bottles - Pirate's Gold Ale, Northwestern Honey Amber Ale

Big congrats! Now, we do have a rule about winning in a competition and donating...

I think BrewEngineer is the one who made the rule... so he should chime in... :D

Chime... I think I heard my name.

The rule isn't in the official brewer's code, however I did make a strong suggestion that you donate based on results.

Brew Engineer wrote:I will pledge to donate $5 for any beer scoring 35 or higher. $10 if it wins a ribbon. If by some miracle I place in best of show, I'll donate an additional $25.

Hell, I'll probably donate something even if I lose, but 4 of the 5 beers I owe directly to the session and Jamil. Thank you!

Take up the challenge, BN Army!

And I'll double my donation if Vanna #1 posts the pictures of Vanna #2!!!

And for the record, the pictures were never posted...
