competition bottle sizes

Why is it that every time I'm reading through beer competition rules they say you must send two bottles of each beer and they must be in 10-14oz bottles? 10-14 oz.-- Is there 14 oz. bottles? I'm pissed because I have a ton of 16oz bottles that I want to send out but they are 2 oz too big. Why wouldn't they just say 10-16 oz bottles since that is a common size. Or am I just confused on this. Are there a bunch of 14oz bottles floating around out there that I have somehow never come across?

Sounds like a typo...Send in the 16 oz ones.

I think the bottle size restrictions are mostly to help the cellarmaster handle the hundreds of bottles that might show up for any given contest. 16oz bottles are typically taller and/or wider than smaller ones and thus won't fit in the same case boxes and sixpack holders.

So send it, but you might want to include a generous tip for the cellarmaster since you will be causing him/her some extra work.

FWIW I can't remember ever coming across a 14oz bottle either.

Its not only for the cellarmaster (and believe me once you get that many bottles going, you wouldn't believe the amount of space they take up), but also for the anonymity of the entries. Not that many people (around here at least) bottle in 16 oz bottles and it would be fairly easy for me to identify the entrant from that bottle.

Nice work speed, I didn't know that! That is a pretty tough comp I would imagine.
