First Time Entry

Well, finally summoned up the courage to enter a local homebrew competition. Entered 5 categories -- Belgian Tripel, Robust Porter, Baltic Porter, American Amber and American Pale. Listed The Brewing Network as my club and will hopefully not embarrass the Army.

HHHC run by the St Louis Brews....http://www.stlbrews.org/competition/hhhc/index.asp

Fingers are crossed and ultimately just want some straight-up objective feedback....

Good luck! I was disappointed in the feedback from my first competition because I was trying to brew a new kind of pale ale and they ripped me for not being on style. They also ripped my oatmeal stout for not having enough roast character but I don't like really roasty stouts. Good luck in your competition and let us know how you go.

+1. That's why I don't enter my stouts in competition. I like mine on the sweet side with no roast. Judges like their stouts on the roast side with no sweet.

I entered 3 beers in the HHHC comp....Rye IPA, Cream Ale, and Vanilla Robust Porter. Last time out, the porter didn't do too well, most comments were for not enough vanilla...but only added 1 tsp at kegging, this time I added 2....so we'll see if that's better....I actually like it this way better, first time I was still trying to figure out how much was enough, and didn't want to over do it.

Good luck in the comp....as long as you are not in my catagories... :D

Also entered as The BN Army. :bnarmy:

I likewise entered a beer into the HHHC. Only one style. But it's one of the best fricking beers I've ever made, and I'm not just saying that. I can't say what style it is, but it's got rye, and it's NOT an IPA... so it looks like the rest of you guys are safe. ;)

Good luck to all.

Back at ya. Not thinking I am much of a threat. Just looking to see what happens and stop making excuses for not at least trying. I think my Tripel and Porter are pretty good. The rest are all right, but not exactly what I was shooting for in terms of balance.

Good luck White Beard and Ziggy.

Don't sell yourself short. The first comp that I entered I won 3 Blue Ribbons out of 4 entries, plus an additional trophy for highest scoring APA, so you just never know. Good luck all!!

p.s. Comps are addictive, especially when you win. You'll probably want to enter as many as possible.

I remember my first entry. The rug burns took two weeks to heal.
