Thanks for the post I am in also. This will be my first competition so I am excited but was also wondering when they list stouts are they entered broken into Imperial, Oatmeal etc. or just grouped under stout?

I am not sure. I am going to send the coordinator an email about this. I have a Robust Porter I am entering and am wondering what the deal is. It does state that if there are not a lot of entries in a particular category, they will be combined. This is probably referring to your question.

My assumption is that this is a "Style" event, so any IPA (ie, American, English, Double) will qualify for the IPAs. I sent the organizer an email volunteering to help judge, so I'll fill you guys in on this once I get all the rules, etc.

I may send in my porter if I can get off my ass and counter pressure fill a few bottles. It says 2 required, but 3 if you can?? What does that mean exactly? I can, but I don't want to! :D

Usually the third bottle gets called upon if there are large enough categories to have multiple flights or a bad bottle. You can only sent two, but if your beer wins the category and goes to best of show, they will be tasting the same bottle that was judged before, but recapped and mostly flat. If you send the third bottle, they will have a nice fresh pour.
