Just to show another side of this equation; if we factored it with my hybrid:
1000 miles round trip, 50 mpg=20 gal @ $3.50/gal=$70

What hybrid gets 50 mpg on the highway? A moped?

LOL :D

Right on numsquat. I've got the Civic hybrid and with my 130-mile daily commute, I need it.

130 miles=65 days (13 weeks worth) of round-trip miles for work for me.

Plus my legs get better than 50 mpg

I sat in a Prius once, almost had to get pried out, damn it's small.

We only buy Toyota's, so between the '06 Corolla and the '07 Tundra (which gets driven little), we get around 28 city/35 highway.
