My houses beer consumption went way down after having kids as well. A lot of that was my wife getting pregnant. I've had an IPA on tap for 3+ months. That never would have happened if we wouldn't have a kid, my wife loves IPA'S.

I think there are other factors that affect your score more than age. You're better off getting more entries in than trying to figure out just the right age. I submitted the same beer to 3 comps and got back scores ranging from 22-32 and the comments all pointed in opposite directions.

BrewinTricycle, you get extra maun points if you claim one of these as your own. Double points for that badass drummer.

There is, but it doesn't hurt to change the order of my brewing a little.

I think the point and goal here is that if you are entering a lot of styles, you can't brew them all in the same day, or even same month so having a schedule may help. That being said, if you're ramping up for a comp, there are some styles that will want to be fresher than others, but without having a working knowledge of how each recipe changes over time, it's hard to go with more than the general rule of thumb you already probably know... Long age on big ABV beers, sours, some wood aged stuff, moderate age on lagers, browns, some maltier styles, smoked?, minimal age on hoppy beers, hefes, etc.
