We'll see how this year goes, but if I get shutout or it's too much of a pain, I'll stop entering (which is what i think they are hoping for). I've gotten entries through to the 2nd round the last 2 years and won one final round medal...I'd like to keep the tradition going.

Umm, how are you getting dinged for a low bottle fill?? That is not scoreable on the BJCP score sheet. A remark/observation, yes, but you don't lose points because of it. Now, if the beer tasted like chewing on a cardboard box because it was oxidized, then yes, I would ding you for THAT, but not on the fill level alone. My $.02

+2 ;-)
Vote for me, Daniel Fick, for 2014 AHA Governing Committee. Voting runs until 3/31/2014. There are 8 spots open this year so you get up to 8 votes. Please vote here: http://bit.ly/1aV9GVd

+3. But this is exactly my point. When the section on appearance has comments saying everything is to style, clarity is brilliant, etc but you get a 2/3, then I assume I got dinged for low fill which they noted.

My main point was whether it's a qualifying comp during the year or just 1st round, it's a crapshoot. How many have had entries in competitions get high scores in one and low scores in another?

I will say this morning when I enter my "requests" for entries for NHC, it was a lot less stressful than last year. Now to see if I end up getting any accepted. I requested 6 (4 beers and 2 ciders), all which have won medals in other comps, btw.

I wish now I had entered last year under The Brewing Network so my two 1st round entries would have been entered into the drawing for the Lost Abbey beers....grrr!!!

I just read, that they'll notify the users that have accepted entries from the 11-19th ? That Sucks! That only gives you 2-3 weeks to brew for the competition.

Brew like you are going to be competing... if you don't get in, you've got a few extra bottles of beer.

...that you can either drink or enter into OTHER competitions. Besides, comps should be secondary to the drankin'.

I get that, but I have limited space. I have a porter sitting in my fermentation chamber and I need to brew an IPA and a Pale Ale.
I can only ferment one at a time. If I brew the IPA and the Pale Ale gets picked them I'm stuck. I just don't understand why they don't give people more time.

You can enter any beer you want and change the entry up until the end of the deadline. They are only selecting how many beers you can enter, not which ones
