So, it is basically like going to school drunk and making fun of the teachers? Sounds kind of boring to be honest. Although the two fellows behind the towel appear to be having fun that I do not want to know about. I certainly would not take underage children to a place where grown men are acting like that. If they had more quality entertainment, maybe some rassling matches, bowling, or something fun to do while drinking, then it could be a more family atmosphere. Even just a simple chicken shit contest, where you put a chicken in a cage where the floor is a numbered grid and you take bets on which number the chicken will dump. Now that is quality entertainment.

I am sorry about your lunch. And your keyboard.

I live in North Dakota. Chicken Shit contests are a lot of fun and pure random luck. Sometimes it is called redneck roulette. I've seen it done on a bigger scale with a cow on the football field too. They do it for fundraising for the pep club. Last year the Mrs won season passes to all the home football games. I heard that some folks think this is somehow cruel to the animals but it's not like somebody is squeezing the poop out of them. They do it all by themselves. The only complaint I have heard myself was the janitor of the high school was not real pleased because he had to clean up the poop. He knew it was for a good cause and all. For your regular small scale games, some folks will use a rabbit, but you can end up with multiple winners. The biggest argument with a chicken is if the plop is a liner and you have to decide which side of the line has more of the poop.

So really. At this conference all you do is stand around and look at beer celebrities and listen to experts babble about stuff? Isn't that why we are here to learn about that stuff? OK I guess I overlooked the drinking. Is it BYO or do these people share? Is there a bowling alley or something close by to do if I do not want to listen to lecturing? Will the WWE be in town that weekend or a tractor pull or something? I do not get out of this country to much and when I do I want to make it fun you know.

Mort,
There are several options at these confrences.
1 The whole shebang... Classes/lectures, hospitality (free beer), Meals, Club Night (homebrew clubs set up booths and you drink for free), Special Dinners/events

2 Just club and hospitality stuff (no lectures)

Probably others as well.
When I went it was quite tame very friendly and not overly obnoxious drunks, NO COCK FIGHTS... I didn't even see anyone puke. I brought my wife and she even went to some classes I thought and she did too that it was great! If you were not to participate in the lectures you would probably have plenty of time to go see some sights and tip some cows or something

For those who have never attended, it's easy to think of the AHA Conference as frat party for older boys (and girls). Far from the truth! Attendees are there to learn, and I'm always amazed by the number of Ph.Ds, LDs, and other professionals that I've met. Conference sessions are detailed, specific, and scientific. Although everyone is sipping various brews throughout the day, it is for evaluation rather than getting a buzz. In fact, one really doesn't want to too buzzed to miss the tastes, tips, conversation and the flavor of the next great beer.

As far as spouses, my wife attended with me in Chicago and Baltimore. She loved Chicago where there were sessions for her interests .... sourdough bread, pairing beer with food, matching beer and chocolate. Baltimore was a different story. Not much there for her, but she's an independent sort and happily spent her days at museums, historical sites and shopping. I do hope that Denver does a good job of offering on-site sessions or off-site options for spouses. Spouses and/or significant others are our most important allies, and if they become personally involved with something like AHA life in the home brewery can be much sweeter.

Well just having been 2 denver for gabf I can tell you that there is a lot of stuff in downtown denver. Lots of public transportation options. The 16 street mall that only has public buses running on it no through traffic and benches and art all over is pretty coool. Plus you have all those micro brews in denver.
