2008 Great Intercontinental Pub Crawl - May 31st

Mon Apr 07, 2008 11:18 pm

Those of you with good memories [and goodness knows that isn't me] might remember last years Great Intercontinental Pub Crawl - well we are at it again this year and would love to renew old friendships and start new ones!

For those of you who have not been a part of it before the short version of what goes on is this:

The most basic information you need to know is that the GIPC is free to participate in, open to anyone wherever they live in the world, and that through your participation you will meet [online at least] some most excellent people.

The plan goes like this – on Saturday May 31st 2008, people all around the world will go bar/pub crawling as best they can. In 2007 we had 143 venues in 66 cities in 16 countries on all 7 terrestrial continents participating! You might want to crawl with your normal drunken mates or use this as opportunity to meet people from online brewing forums in your area etc. Some places even use the opportunity to raise funds for local charities.

So what do you do if you want to be more involved?

Well first of all tell us the name of city & country you are crawling in – then when you work out what bars/pubs/houses/gutters you will be in tell us that too!

The easiest way to tell us is by mailing us at Pyssedas@yahoo.com
If you want to be more involved come over to the crawl forum at:

Hi Everyone,

Just a very quick update to say thanks to those who have responded with updates as to when and where they will be crawling – and an even bigger thanks to those who have encouraged their family and friends to join in.

This week we welcomed more venues in South Africa, Austria, Germany and Australia.

We now have 27 venues in 23 cities in 7 countries on 5 continents participating – this is great – but a long way behind where we have been previously so please get involved if you have not already done so – just email us where you are going to be on the day and of course ask any questions you might have – pyssedas@yahoo.com

We currently have 15 t-shirts ordered – which is below what we need to make the venture economically viable – if you haven’t ordered one – or you want to know more please let me know ASAP

One week left until we will finalise the t-shirt design! This means that if you want to have your crawl/pub/town included in the design you have to let us know by the end of Monday the 7th May. Similarly if you want a shirt now is the time to confirm your order

Just a very quick reminder to those people who have yet to register their venues that we need to know them by the end of this weekend for them to be included on the t-shirts

Similarly shirt orders need to be paid for by the end of the weekend

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick update on where we are at – in the last week or so we have had substantial crawls join us from St Albans in the UK and Renton in Washington USA. As well as Manila [meaning that Asia is now ticked off our list] and confirmation of venues in Melbourne and some other venues as well.

We are now up to 6 continents, 10 countries, 42 cities, 122 venues. A bit behind our total of last year, but we are closing the gap fast. If you haven’t yet joined/rejoined the crawl post us a message!

T-shirts are now off at the manufacturers, and attention is turning to our free crawlers booklets – all contributions welcome.

Just another quite update – now with only 4 sleeps to go till crawl day!

T-shirts and crawlers almanacs are now being sent around the world – the almanacs are free so please contact us if you want one!

There are updates over at the forum including the news that we have welcomed venues in Angola and South Korea on board, meaning that we are now only 11 venues behind last year’s number.

If you haven’t yet signed up – it’s not too late – just let us know asap either here, at the forum or mail us at Pyssedas@yahoo.com
We currently have about 30 people on the bus for the pub tour of country Victoria, but that does leave some spare seats which we are offering to the general public.

We will gather at the Flemington/Kensington Bowls club [close to rail/tram] leaving strictly at 11am, returning about 7.

The list of pubs we are going to is:

• Flemington/Kensington Bowls Club
• Diggers Rest Hotel, Diggers Rest
• Telegraph Hotel, Gisborne
• Macedon Family Hotel, Macedon
• Holgate Brewery, Woodend
• Victoria Hotel, Woodend
• Shamrock Hotel, Kyneton
• Newmarket Hotel, Kyneton
• Pig & Whistle, Trentham East
• Trentham Hotel, Trentham
• Blackwood Hotel, Blackwood
• Greendale Hotel, Greendale
• Plough Inn, Myrniong
• Border Inn, Bacchus
• Flemington/Kensington Bowls Club

Seats are $35 each [not bad for 8 hours of travel], you then pay for whatever you want to eat or drink. This money is paid direct to bus company, we make no money from it.

Feel free to ask us any questions you may have about this fun, if somewhat silly, event!

Twas the night before Pub Crawl, and all through the land,
All the brewers were brewing, to meet growing demand.
All the t-shirts were printed, the almanacs sent,
The ficus leaves shined, and the monkeys all kempt.

But there was one little crawler, who was snoring in bed,
She moaned and she groaned, and she held her sore head.
She’d been out boozing, causing trouble and strife,
And that little crawler was my own darling wife.

But let us move on, for I’m afraid I digress,
If I stay on this topic it’ll end in a mess.
Let me remark, that it’s not yet too late,
To join in the crawl, your fun will be great!

If you’re in Melbourne, to join us on the bus,
Just send us an email, there’s really no fuss.
If you’re not in that town, to get your name on our list,
Just drop us a line, to say where you’ll get pyssed.

Yesterday we were proud to welcome Daylesford and Vienna,
If I run short of cash, will you lend me a tenner?
Okay that’s a sign, that this poem’s got lame,
I’ll make a real effort to lift up my game.

A thanks to all forums, on which we have posted,
Except “Beer Advocate”, who don’t deserve to be hosted.
So for tomorrow, I wish you all the best cheer,
I don’t know about you, but I could murder a beer!

Dave
