Good comps to Enter?

Fri Apr 18, 2008 9:52 am

Now that the deadline for the Nationals has passed (I entered 4 mediocre beers) I thought maybe I'd plan a little better for next year.

I went though the schedule at http://www.bjcp.org/apps/comp_schedule/ ... hedule.php to see what comps are coming up for the rest of the year, but my question is this:

I've heard that there are certain comps that are known for being well-judged... Since my goal is to get the best criticism of my beers as possible, what are some comps that I should consider entering?

The Maltose Falcons Mayfaire, but the deadline for that comp is usually two weeks before Nationals. Next year.

I think the Dixie Cup in Texas in the fall is a highly regarded comp.

go to www.awoghomebrew.com

entry deadline is May 3rd (teach a friend to homebrew day)

the competition gets well over 300 entries and the judging is very good. [/url]

You will not find better judging than at the Great Basin Brew-Off put on by the Washoe Zephr Zymurgists over in the Reno/Sparks area. The entry fees are low and it's only a day away from the bay area by UPS ground. Plus, if your beer is selected from the BOS finalists, it's brewed at the Great Basin Brewing Company and you're in the 2008 GABF Pro-Am.

The deadline is this Friday.

Dang, that's quick.

I can probably get 1 or 2 things together this week, but nothing great.

I need some time to get some things stockpiled and aged.

Anyone know of any good comps in the Fall?
