Get your scores back yet MNHazmat?
Got mine today. My IIPA scored 24 1/3 and my BW got a 25 1/2
Not enough hops in the IIPA and the BW had too many.
Both judges said that the IIPA would have been better suited as an English IPA. The comments they left me were very encouraging, it was just off the style.
I feel pretty good about it, though. I was docked for being outside the parameters of the style, more than anything. There were no off flavors or any boxes on the left marked, so I feel great about that.
Not bad for being back in the brewing world for less than 3 months!
How did yours look?

Yep. Scores arrived today along with a shirt, hat, flashlight, brewing logbook, White Labs coupon and medals. The fast turnaround was nice and the swag was a nice surprise.

33.3 on the IIPA. I was dinged for low hop aroma (expected - brew is almost 5 months old). Some of the comments are a little off such as "malt overpowered by hops". Duh.. It's an IIPA??

42.5 on the pale ale. No negative comments there.

As for the other 4 beers I entered they ranged from 28.5 up to 34.3. Generally speaking the comments were good, but in several cases (and a frustration I've had with comps, not just this one) is that I was dinged points with no explanation. If you're going to give me a 6/10 please say why, don't just write "great beer thanks for entering".

There were also discrepincies in mine as well. Different people have different palates, I guess.
What were your judges names? Some of the comments I got were pretty vague, too. Oh well, I have bigger and better things about. Like having a good showing at mn craft beer fest. I have some really good ones, I think, for this one.
Congrats again and I am super jealous of the swag! Way to go on that pale! 42.5? Goddamn, that's serious business!
