NHC Newbie

Sat Jan 22, 2011 5:08 pm

I plan on entering the NHC this year for the first time. I think I understand what to do, but I want to make sure. I live in northern IL and although Madison is closer than Indy, I think I still have to send my beer to Indy. I need some verification that what I want to do is correct.

1. Send 1 bottle (per style) to Indianapolis void of any label.
2. Have 3 bottles on reserve in case of advancement.

Do I have to send in a form along with them? Do they need to know recipe specifics?
What else do I need to do?

When you enter your beers online there will be bottle labels to print out and attach.

Look at the AHA web site under participate. http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/p ... articipate
I'm not sure about NHC but the number of bottles and rules can change from year to year in most competitions.
ENJOY YER BEER and let them that don't want none have memories of not havin' any!

Just use a rubber band to keep the the label around its bottle. PLEASE DON'T glue them on or even use tape.

Submit early. Most regions will probably cap out this year.

Probably won't be well received...but if most regions cap out this year, time to look at max number of entries per person?

Yes, I know will piss off potential Ninkasi folks, but maybe it's time to make 15-20 entries to NHC a thing of the past...would still keep everyone on equal footing, allowing their best forward. All due respect in the world to the Ted's, Gordon's, and Jamil's of the world, but might explode things even further, than current....

In the past the regions that have maxed have not been the ones with the most prolific entrants. It isn't the 3 people who want to send 50 entries, it is the 1000 people who want to send 3.

I think if you go back to 2 entries for the first round you'll solve the problem, and have higher quality judging.
