Oregon Brew Fest

Mon Jul 10, 2006 6:43 pm

I noticed in the TBN Gallery that the Brewcasters attended the Oregon Brew Fest last year. Anyone plan to attend this year? It's July 27, 28 29, and 30 at the Waterfront Park in Portland, OR. Looks like there will be something like 70 breweries there.

Check it out at:

It promises to be a good time.

The Oregon Brewer's Festival is by far my favorite festival, and I've done both GABF and Oktoberfest. Part of the reason I love it is because Portland is such a great city for beer, and easy to get around in. Also, the Ruby from McMenamins is perfect for hot summer days. Since there's a McMenamins on almost every corner, I'm never too far from Ruby.

Copious amounts of beer, interspersed with walks between pubs, makes the coming week something I look forward to every year. It should be on everyone's calendar. There are cheap places to stay, some right over pubs. Everyone should do it at least once.

I'll be there. In fact, was planning to be in Portland this week for business but was flying back on Thursday. However, someone reminded me of the festival before I booked my flight so I'm going to make it for the first day on Thursday! I've even got a newborn at home and SWMBO said, "You should change your plans so you can go to the festival!".

Is that awesome or what?

I'll be there today, thursday! I didn't think I was going to make either, but talking to the wife yesterday she assumed that I was going. So I am! Look for the guy in the black kilt, bald head and goatee.

So I was there yesterday, and had a blast. Opening day thursday is the day to go. Previously I had gone on Saturday or Sunday, and there were always lines and by mid way through the kegs were running dry on the popular beers. Yesterday was great because the lines were nice and short, and it seemed like there were more beer fans there than party people.

I think that my two favorite beers there came from breweries that I didn't expect. The Ned Flanders Red from Rock Bottom and the White Lightening Whisky Stout from Concordia McMenamin's were both very good. I wish I could spend the whole festival, or even this whole month up in Portland. There are so many good beer events going on, but I am stuck down here in Salem.

At least today we are heading to Bend. I will hopefull get the chance to visit Bend Brewing, Silver Moon Brrewing, and of course Deschutes.
