Louisiana Club only Competition

Tue Dec 23, 2008 8:38 pm

We are putting the word out to all Louisiana clubs that are insterested to participate.

This was going to be a competition between us (the DYS) and The Red Sick Brewmasters of Baton Rouge, we've since decided to include all clubs in the state.

To my knowlege these clubs are in:

The Dead Yeast Society
The Red Sick Brewmasters
Crescent City Homebrew Club
Mystic Krewe of Brew

The Bayou basin Brewers of Morgan city have not met since hurricane Gustave but will probably be joining in as well

The rules so far sent out to all clubs is " each club can choose a style, but all people in clubs participating can brew any of the style's chosen.
The first competition will be held at our LHBS Marcello's in Lafayette since we started the competition
The winning club gets to keep the trophy for 1 year and sponsors the competition the following year."

After all the clubs get on board then the clubs will amend the rules and all the clubs will vote on the final rules.
Then these will be the rules unless amended by all the clubs in the future.

Style's chosen so far style 14 IPA, and all subcategories of IPA, Cream ale style 6A, these style's are for the trophy
Quite a few members from the Redsticks and ours would like to compete with a American Brown ale style 10c not for the trophy unless picked by a club. This will get a honorable mention but this also will be voted on by all the clubs to see if it will happen.

If anybody is insterested, contact me via pm

Louisiana clubs only,

Thanks,

James Lutgring

I'll bring it up with my club, I had to miss the last meeting so I wasn't in on all of the things discussed.
I'll get back to you on that.

i'm not a member and i'm not sure that they are still active. i dont want to speak for them, but there was a group called SUDS led by bob carbone. he had a small homebrew shop at his home and i think is a bjcp judge. i would guess that they are still active but i cant get over there(1 year old twins). i have no idea how many members there are. i just entered my first comp(st louis happy holidays) and after a third in best bitter and a 43 from a national judge on my oatmeal stout i'm excited to get more feedback.

I spoke to Bob Carbone a few months ago, and he said that SUDS is no longer active. I am in the process of recruiting for a new homebrew club for the Shreveport/Bossier City area. I have about 8 potential members so far. We would welcome you to join positiverpr if the drive from Minden wouldn't be too much for you. I don't know how often we will meet, we haven't had a planning meeting yet. If you would like to join our yahoo group it is here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sbchomebrew/. This way you can keep up with what we are planning and determine if you would like to join us, and you can send all of your local homebrewing friends to the group as well.
