Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA

Tap at Barclays in Oakland. Low SRM as you would expect for an IPA, nice and bright looking (probably filtered). Nice flowery aroma, the Centennial is definitely coming through in a big way. Clean hop bitterness from the Simcoe. The bitterness lingers at the end of the palate just long enough, but not too long, helped by the well-attenuated dry finish. Lots of grapefruit and citrus primary in the hop flavor, pine and pungent qualities secondary. A touch of caramel sweetness, but not too much. A very tasty IPA. Thanks Matt..

Nahthan, as a fellow Nathan, I have to say that you underrate the Union Jack. ;)
Everything you say is dead on, and I don't know that I have anything to add to the description but superlatives.

I had this at the Toronado yesterday, and I must say that it was the best-balanced D-IPA I've ever had (hmm. maybe it's just an IPA, which it seemed like. Anyone know the ABV? I thought 8 was high, but that's what I've seen elsewhere...they don't have info on the brewery website). You got that hit of great aroma at the beginning, but it was a perfectly smooth drink with a great finish. I really, really hope that they put this into permanent rotation. All you west coast guys, go out and demand this in your beer bars. It was the most refreshing beer I've had in a couple of years (including when I used to live in Oxford, UK).

Being a neighbor of the brewery, I've had quite a few pints of this great brew. Sustained malt profile really balances out the very fresh hops. Grapefruit and toffee aromas round everything out. Should be in bottles by year's end.

If anyone in California's interested, I'd be happy to try to figure out a way to get you a growler of this. PM me if there's anyone willing to give it a go.

I got some pineapple aroma from this one too.

Delicious IPA and currently my favorite brew in the Firestone Walker lineup. Doesn't hurt that it's currently on sale at BevMo for $6.99.

Great balance, lovely hop flavors and aromas (citrus, pineapple). Caramelly sweetness from the malt rounds things out for an easy-drinking IPA.
