Alaskan Black IPA... similar to Janets Brown?

Yesterday I tried an Alaskan Black IPA and my immediate impression was it tasted very similar to the Janet's Brown I brew. I have some Janets on tap and compared them side by side and found differences but had a hard time picking a favorite. Very similar hop profile between them. The Janets had more malt aroma and flavor that I think is coming from the C40 where the Alaskan does not have much malt aroma but a stronger roast character.

I did like the extra roast flavor in the Alaskan and thinking about increasing the Chocolate contribution and decreasing the C40 in next batch of Janets that I make.

Anyone else find them to be similar?

I can't speak to the Alaskan but I had the same opinion about Indeed Brewing's Midnight Ryder. They describe it as an American Black Ale.
