Bluepoint Brewery, Long Island NY

I tried a growler of their Hoptical Illusion.

Very nice upfront hop aroma with a floral and sweet malt backgound. Very clear beer with an gold to light amber color. The flavor is citrus, more grapefruit and some hints of orange. Nice bitterness on the front of the tongue lingering until a bit of sweetness kicks in. I definitely would drink it warmer than cold... 50-55 brings out the most flavor. Overall I think it is a good IPA but my taste is more towards a more balanced beer. It is a little too much on the upfront bitterness and would like to see a smoother finish. My frend had the bottle version and from what he discribed I would say the kegged version was smoother.

I always try to Drink Local and when I saw this beer I had to give it a try. I will definitely seek them out and try other brews.

Give it a try if you can find it.

Hey 2 Dog, I see you are from upstate, which to me means anything outside the 5 burroughs. Hopefully you are by The Captain Lawrence Brewery which is mighty fine.
If you ever make it to the city, by all means look me up.
Cheers.

Fritz buddy, I'm up Saratoga way above Albany. Yeah, I lived in NYCfor a few years and when I told people I was upstate they thought I meant Westchester.

I don't make to the city that often but the next time I head down I will look you up. If you ever venture up this way you look me up as well. We have a few good beer bars and a couple tiny breweries too. Besides Brooklyn Brewery I haven't had any of the craft beer that I know is being brewed down there. I remember reading about a start up brewery that I thought was in Brooklyn of all places. They looked like a couple of college kids if I remember correctly. Where is the Captain Lawrence?

Cheers,

Rob

Hey Rob,
Good to see the reply and it is always great to see TBN listerners in this neck of the woods.
Captain Lawrence is in Pleasantville and is a tremendous small brewery, where the @#$&@ that is in proximity to your area I do not know as I never was a wiz at geography.
But they sell to a few decent pubs in NYC and the surrounding area. Here is their link:

The start up in Brooklyn is Sixpoint and they are awesome: here is another link: http://www.sixpointcraftales.com/ the also are excelent.
I wold have to say they are a more craft version of The Brooklyn Brewery which is no slouch by any menas, especially anyhtnig in the Brewasters reserve series.
Hopefully we can meet up one us these days. Our home is always open to home brewers, especialy to those that tune in the Brewing Network.
Cheers.

If you take the NY Thruway north you'll practically run into my house  well, almost.

Pleasantville is just north east of Yonkers I think and let's just say I am closer to Vermont than Yonkers.

We have a little brewery up here called Coopers Cave. They were home brewers and the factory that the owner was working at closed so he said what the hell and opened his brewery. They just bought a new system and are slowly building the business. There beers are pretty darn good.

I thought of the name, six point, after I sent the response. I need to get some of there brews and give them a try. I'm a big fan of Brooklyn Brewery. My favorite is Brooklyn Brown and this years Chocolate Stout was unbelievable. I have never been to that brewery but it's on my list of places to go too.

Two other breweries beer you should seek out are Ithaca Beer Company and Butternuts Beer and Ales. Ithaca has a nice Nut Brown and a very nice Double IPA. Butternuts Farmhouse Pale Ale is very good as well.

The same goes for me Fritz. I usually have couple of my home brews on tap so there will be a pint with your name on it should you make it up north.

Anyone from the BN is always considered a friend of mine (well accept JP but that goes without saying) so hopefully we can share a pint some day.
