New Belgium - Ranger IPA Recipe

Hey BN'ers,

Has anyone had any luck cloning the New Belgium Ranger IPA? I'm thinking about brewing an IPA and I would like to brew something very close to the Ranger IPA I've tasted.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

PLease do as I am always wary of those BYO recipes (except of course JZ's). They just never seem to be very good, at least when I have used them. I remember seeing that recipe in the last issue and thinking that something about it just didn't look like it would come close to the Ranger. Was it that they used a large addition of sugar maybe?

Agreed - I was a little put off by the 2 lbs of cane sugar and 148F mash temp for a 5 gallon batch. However, the beer is in the fermentor right now and I should have it on tap in 1-2 weeks. I'll let you know how it comes one once it is ready.

Sorry for the delay in the response....

The Ranger IPA beer came our well. As mentioned above, I was a little uneasy about the low mash temp AND 2 lbs of sugar, but the beer didn't seem overly thin or cidery. It was just a good, dry, IPA.

We don't get Ranger IPA around here, so I can't tell you how close it was to the original, but the beer was worth the effort. I'd brew it again.
