Best beer...by US State?

Thu Apr 01, 2010 6:52 am

Hey guys (and ladies),

My brother in law is a lighting technician. Tours the greater USA with various rock bands. I was thinking about putting a compilation list together for him on "Best Micro or Craft beer by State". If you have suggestions, throw down here, and I'll add a bunch as well.

Cheers.

Lots of brewpubs in and around Philly as well as the rest of the state like Triumph, Dock Street, Nodding Head, Earth Bread & Brewery, Appalachian, Allentown BrewWorks ...too many

New York:

There are probably others I've missed as I'm not native to all of these states.

In New Hampshire, I have to go with Budweiser :) ( brewery in Merrimack, NH )

Just kidding...I think the Portmouth Brewery would be my bet, but White Birch is putting out some nice Belgian Style beers too.

Here in Nebraska it's kind of hit and miss depending on where you are. The best beers on tap are from Nebraska Brewing Company in Papillion (that's a southern suburb of Omaha). Their Hop God is an incredible Belgian dubbel hopped like a west coast DIPA. It's expensive and hard to find but worth it. More readily available and almost as good are their Nut Brown Ale and IPA.

Empirean Brewing in Lincoln has a good solid line of beers. Their ESB and Third Stone Brown are two of their best beers. Their entire line of beers are available in beer stores all over the state and are just starting to distribute in a couple of others. The best place to get them on tap is in their restaurants either the Lazlo's or Fireworks in Lincoln and Omaha.

Zac Tremert, formerly the brewer at Upstream Brewing in Omaha, now owns Lucky Bucket Brewing. Right now they have a pre-prohibition style lager that is quite popular but which I don't particularly care for and their Collaborative Evil beer that was featured out at GABF last fall. These beers are on tap and have limited bottled distribution in Lincoln and Omaha.

Upstream Brewing in Omaha still have a good solid line of beers but not quite as good as when Zac was there. Still the food is great and the beer definitely worth drinking.
