As some of you may know I was down in AZ last weekend. Its always nice getting out of town, especially for the beer. A buddy of mine had this beer on tap at his house. My initial impression was mixed but as I had a little more it began to really show me why it was a good beer.

I thought the color was good, the head was nice and smelt amazing! The sweet taste threw me for a loop initially, but once the slightly bitter aftertaste balanced it out I was happy with the beer. So happy that I do believe I blacked out one night drinking it.

It's even better at the pub... just sayin'. It sounds like you might have not had the freshest example to review. I might be partial to it, cuz it is one of my local brews - but I think it's a really great example of an ESB - and probably my favorite of all the locals.

I did end up having it at the brew pub. I will have a full review of the pub coming up in the next couple weeks. Regardless, the pub was sweet.

Anyway, at first I was expecting more bitter, but it actually was a lot sweeter than I thought.

I should have posted I was going to AZ and seen if anyone wanted to come have a brew with me!

8th street is one of my favorites from Four Peaks. The Hop Knot, Double Knot, and Kilt Lifter are also excellent. You can often find the 8th street ale on cask but I have yet to get there with they have any left! Sun Up and Old World are two of the other PHX breweries I rank near Four Peaks.

Dude.... SERIOUSLY? You owe Uwe an apology for mentioning Sun Up in the same sentance as Old World.

... and I might owe him an apology for putting his name right next to the word "owe", but I digress. Sun Up is MILES ahead of Old World.... which should change their name to "Short For This World".

I agree, Uwe rocks. If I were in the area I would drink OW though...I wouldn't leave Sun Up to do so but I am just saying, they don't suck. Now we could start going on about people like Barrio, Electric Daves, etc...

Good point though, Sun Up and Four Peaks probably need to be in a separate paragraph at least! Did you try the cask amber from Sun Up? It was really tasty! The red was good also but that amber was really good.

8th Street Ale is probably my most favorite beer nowadays. I am also partial to it cause it's a local brewpub, but whenever I drink it, whether it is in a bottle, home keg, or cask conditioned at the pub, I just can't get enough! I am currently slowly working on my own version of it.

I have a feeling I NEED to make it to Sun Up Brewery. I've been wanting to go, but it's just far and I'm never on that side of town. I need an excuse to go, who wants to meet me there?

It's farther for me to go to Sun Up... but given enough notice, I should be able to meet some BNers down there on a tues or friday evening (days that Mrs. Mylo is off and can pick up the assistant brewers from school). In my opinion, Four Peaks has a 3-4 home runs, but the rest of their beers are "just fine". Sun Up might only hit 3-4 out of the park - but the others are consistently better than Four Peaks.
