Bear Republic Racer 5

22 oz. brown bomber bottle. No freshness date seen, but it's fresh, believe me. As the cap farted when I opened it, the smell of hops was right there. Almost took my breath away from the freshness of the hop aroma. Poured out a cloudy, hazy copper color, with a rather fast fading cream colored head. It left more than a decent lacing down the sides of the glass however. Aromas are of those powerful hops, Colombus, and Cascade brings up the rear. Slightly overdone on the hops, but a refreshing beer all the same. Slight caramel in the nose as well. Grapefruit, piney, resinous hops make up the bulk of the aromas in this beer. The tastes are of grapefruits stuck on pine needles, and some maltiness, but the hops are the real star here. Really hoppy burbs follow this beer on the way down. Finishes really bitter, with a long-lingering aftertaste of Cascade hops. A really nicely done IIPA, but needs a little more malt to balance it out, IMHO.
