Has anyone tried the Kellerweis? If so, care to give a brief review?

Blober has a huge boner for this beer and I've had a couple and think it's really good.

I'm not at all into "reviewing beer" and don't know how close to style it is or any of that jazz. I still just live by the motto of "drink what you like" and I like the Kellerweis.

I had one last night for the first time. I'm not a big time beer reviewer, but I thought it very good. Nice banana, clove, citrus flavors that put it head and shoulders above the other supposed Hefes out there.

Here's a link to what the folks at Beer Advocate think: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/140/48434.

If I like it, does that make me gay? Or worse, Canadian?

excellent example of a hefe... it would hold it's own against any of them. just wish they sold them in the big bottles like the germans so it would fill the hefe glass.

The yeast is great for stepping up from the bottle. I did a Hefeweizen with it, then used a slug from the Hefeweizen on a Weizenbock.

Flaming the cap area

The decanted off beer

Boiling up 50ml of .020 wort

cooled and pitched the yeast at the bottom of 2 bottles of Kellerweis

12 hours later a little bit more yeast in the 50ml

Stepped up the 50ml to a 500ml start of .025 for 2 days then stepped that up to 1600ml of .035 wort last night. Bubbling nice on the stirplate this morning

yeah... this is a really good example of a classic hefe. It's clean and crisp with enough softness from the wheat. The banana and clove are there in balance without either being over the top. It's a good hefe!

+1
Hell... just sell them in a bigger bottle for the sake of selling them in a bigger bottle. :jnj

I thought the beer was very nice, but... when I had it at the NHC it did have noticeable sulfur in the aroma and flavor. For me, it wasn't terribly offensive, but I could tell the beer would have been fucking awesome if the sulfur weren't there. I'd wager a guess that it was a batch-specific issue - I'm sure if I picked up a sixer now it would be awesome. In fact, I just may do that! :aaron
