Anchor Porter

Mon Jun 20, 2005 2:26 am

12 oz. brown stubbie Anchor bottle. 3YF code on back of bottle. Poured out an extremely dark chocolate brown, almost black in appearance. Thick brownish head slides back to a thin lacing on top of the beer itself. Aromas are of caramel malts, molasses, slight burnt malts, and a faint wisp of hops. Tastes very good, especially for a porter. Dry finish to the strong malty backbone, and subdued hopping. Makes a great breakfast beer, goes good with bangers & mash, or steak & eggs. Another winner from Mr. Maytag.

I absolutely agree.....this is the best porter out there in my opinion. Rich flavor and a smooth finish.

My very first craft brew was Anchor Porter in 1979. Living in Georgia, the beer selection bites, but I was fortunate to have a package store who's owner enjoyed fine wines and thus, his beer selection was beyond BMCs. He convinced me to try it and insisted I use a room temperature glass. I've found other porters I like better, but I will always remember the first craft beer I had......
I had to replace my motion sensor light on the front of my house. I made a mistake and replaced it with a emotion sensor light. Every time the guy across the street from me got mad at his wife, it would turn on.
