does anyone else have a Hofbrauhaus near them?
I went to the one in Pittsburgh last weekend and actually thought it was pretty good. It's nice to see a place only making lagers. The sauerbraten was pretty good too. I'm sure that the food was only good because the place has only been open for a month....you know how it goes. When a restaurant opens, its all clean and everyone works hard. But then months later, the employees start getting treated like shit and then stop caring.
Their straight lager, which I'm assuming is a munich helles, hit the spot on that hot and steamy day.

booboo... as far as I know, there are only a couple of Hofbrauhauses in the world. Why they picked Pittsburgh as a place to put one is beyond me, but I enjoyed going there. We hit it up for Mother's Day (my mother in law grew up in Germany). I thought the food was alright, but the beer was well made. I was enjoying the shit out of the Dunkel.

From the looks of it, there are 6 in operation in the US:
Newport, Kentucky
Las Vegas, Nevada
Miami Beach, Florida
Chicago, Illinois
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Pittsburgh, PA

i think they chose Pittsburgh because of the large German/eastern european population and/or their ancestors. Plus, i think the Burgh is a great drinkin town...the craft beer culture is ok but us yinzers can put down some beer.

If you own a large business and you want to make more money, open a place in NYC.

I went to the Hofbrauhaus in Chicago before a beer fest at Goose Island. The beer was good. The food was good though the menu seemed more trendy than traditional. The worst part was the pop/rock music in the haus. I guess it's Wrigleyville's version of a Munich beer hall.

Newport, Kentucky is across the river from Cincinatti. There is also one in Panama City Beach, Fl. Just went there a couple days ago. Had a great time. We were there about 5 hours. I had 3 L and perma grin when we left.

I've been to the one in Newport a couple of times...I love it, some of the freshest most authentic lagers you can get in US, nice beer garden and live polka music to boot
