I had this for the first time this weekend and will be posting the review asap. But for now for those who have not tried it yet ...... Hahahahahahahahhahaha you are missing out.

[Homegrown Hops]

Bought at the brewery in Santa Rosa. I made a second trip to RR on my pub crawl trip to San Francisco just to get a 64oz growler of this to bring home.


11.0%ABV / 1.098 O.G / GOBS of BUs
From the growler, a head of delicate white lace which subsides to a slight ring around the edge of the glass. An obvious intense floral aroma teases the nose with apparent alcohol. I expected the first taste to blow my lips off (bitter) but the brew begins with huge hop flavor with fruity sweetness on the tongue that fades to a pleasant and lingering bitter. The malt balances precisely with the ample hop character to make a lasting impression in your memory. Absolutely in a class of its own by anyones standards. I will drive the 4 hours to refill that growler until Vinnie comes with a clone or I can get close enough myself.

Nice bottle. Kinda reminds me of a no talent dance recital. Dress the little shits up in sparkle cloths and give them a prop.

I had both Elder and Younger at the 2005 GABF. I was very impressed with the Elder. Younger was too big alcoholic wise. I like big beers, but younger was like the Frankenstein of Double IPAs. On a side note if you are interested in producing something like Elder then go to the archives and listen to the first Vinnie show when he talks about dry hopping. I took a Double IPA that started at 1.084 and fermented it down to 1.010 with US56. The beer was made with about 50-60 IBU's of Sterling. I then dry hopped with 2oz of Simcoe for two weeks, and then 2oz of Amirillo for two weeks. The result has amazing hop presence. I will be repeating this brew again using other dry hops. The beer I made could be more bitter, but it was not originally supposed to be a Double IPA. Long story.

Thanks for your reply. I have yet to taste my Frankenbrew but I am anxious as hell. Your hop bill sounds interesting as well, what was your malt bill if you dont mind me asking.
