No sin, brotha. You just don't know what you are missing. Sampling my version of Tasty's Brown right now. Damn good beer.

Properly brewed, stored and served, I find it really hard to turn down a well made beer of any style. And it is a definitely a shame that well made German and English style beers aren't getting much attention and respect right now.

Rare/hype beer consumerism just for consumerism sake bugs me just as much as the next, but that's a great reason to ignore that, homebrew and concentrate on what you like. You could go crazy trying to track down the latest highly coveted buzz beer from the RateBeer or BeerAdvocate world, or even worse, trying to follow that trend in your beer brewing just because someone else rated it 100 points even though it wasn't really your thing. That's not nearly as rewarding as fine tuning your brewing to what you like and letting your own tastes and skills be the guide.

Someday the hype tide will shift as it always inevitably does. Who knows, maybe DRAFT and Beer Advocate will soon have months of feature stories about a new "low alcohol, well balanced all malt beer" that could be gaining momentum somewhere as I type this right now. At this point such a shift would probably only open up more interesting taps at your local bar alongside the belgian-style,barrel-aged,sour,ultra-hoppy beers that may already be there. There seems to be a growing audience for all beer styles in the U.S., and as much as some of their interpretations can be obnoxious, I think this growing interest is a Good Thing.

I had one a few weeks ago that was skunky. Even w/ the brown bottle and being conditioned, etc. etc. etc. It was flat out light struck.
So just a heads up, you may want to buy the last one in the back of the row.

I had one of the large bottles from Trader Joe's last month that was absolutely 100% litestruck and skunky. The 750ml bottles are thinner and lighter amber in color than the 12 oz bottles that come in the 4 pack. Also TJs just set them out under bright florescents 24 hours a day, and I can't imagine that their turnover on duvel is enormous. Buy the 4 packs. The bottles are really thick and re-usable, and you can cap them with a crown capper.

My 2cents on Duvel: Sex in a bottle.

Yeah, BevMo takes much better care of their beer than TJs. I've gotten some light-struck beers at TJs.

But BevMo is a complete PITA to get to where I live. TJs is across the street from where I work. I've done the math.

And when I'm in TJs I can get their frozen NZ rack of lamb and their M. Chevalier Cava for $5.99. It's our "daily" food wine. Also stock up on the Indian Fare retort packages and add to rice for easy work lunches. Oops, off topic...

I still have more than 7 gallons of my Duvel clone. It's shrinking. Rapidly.

What should I brew, oh wise one? Should I brew (again) my Molasses Wheat that just kicked? Nope, that's just like everyone else. How about my Honey Blueberry (again)? Fruit beers are just a fad...

Your brewing selections speak volumes about you. Molasses wheat, honey blueberry, for real!!???? You should brew a bock next, followed by an ESB and a Stout. It might help you grow some hair on your nads.

Fruity beers are for fruity people.
On Deck:
Cream Ale
Fermenting:
Dusseldorf Altbier
On Tap:
Brown Porter

This is a joke right? Why do you care some much about what other people are brewing or drinking?
