and I will in turn sort of agree with you and kind of disagree with myself.

Duchess is an ok beer, but not to start with. I think the dry sour beers are easier to wrap your head around. Then once you acquire a taste for the sour, dive the duchess a try ... and bask in her sacharin sweetness :) ;)


And....ironically...I will sort of disagree with you. I think the Duchess is a great starter sour because it is sweet. I think the dryness of many sour beers makes it sharper/more pronounced (read: less appealing to noobies). Even my fiancee sort of likes the Duchess and she hates all sours other than Lindemans (which I cant stand other than their Gueuze).

Aaaaaaaaand I will semi re-agree with you. The sweet is easy to get down for some people, but personally, the nice dry gueuzes were easier to aquaint myself with. AND, the back sweetening is a good thing not to get aquainted with. :jnj

Aaaaaaannnd we finally completely agree. Personally, the drier sours were far easier for me to get into as well...and the back-sweetened/pasteurized lindemans were interesting....ONCE.

RR Temptation is the best sour beer I've tried.
Beatification is too damn sour for my palate.
Sanctification is ok, but I want more leather and horse from it.
Consecration, while wonderful, is not the masterpiece the review sites seem to say.
I heart Duchess.
Best fruit lambic: Liefman's Kriek.

Well, actually a nice fresh gueze is the best - not because of the dryness, but because there is still a tiny bit of sweetness from the young lambic to round it out. That, and the complexity from the other two.... oooh man.

Cantillion's single lambics (straight or fruit) are great once in a while - but they tend to be rip your face off sour. Their gueze is starting to be my favorite of theirs. Probably cuz I can't get RR Santification on a regular basis...

And I hope Tomme does another run of Isabelle.... (please, please!)

According to their press release they used up as much of the 17 barrels as they could when they released it to the public. They'd have to get Avery/Allagash/Dogfish/RR to all age more. It's a shame, because that is my most highly rated beer. I still have one bottle in the fridge awaiting a special occasion (and to see how it ages).
