Why are you guys even buying this CRAP?

I have a friend that was part of the original test group of tasters. They paid him a hundred bucks to spend the day at Busch Gardens (Sea World) in San Diego. They had him taste of bunch of different styles of this so called "American Ale". He said they all tasted like crap, but at least he made some Cash!

But then again, with beers like Exponential (and Pure) Hoppiness, Pliney (the Elder and Younger), Green Flashes West Coast IPA, Alesmith IPA and Pizza Ports Carlsbad Chronic being brewed practically in our backyard we tend to a bit spoiled. :bnarmy:

Don't fall for AB's evil tricks...
Enjoy Great Beer!

a) didnt buy it. had one.

b) i will never turn down a new beer that looks interesting just because of who made it. i might think twice about plunking down $7 for a six, but i won't turn down an offered one.

c) the fact that AB is making a micro-style ale shows that they have seen the inevitable. they are not going to put the craft industry to the mat, much as they have tried. it's good to see that their efforts are substandard; it reinforces my belief that we will win in the end.

I won't write off any beer until i try it for myself. I would be doing myself a disservice NOT trying it.

Amen. Also, I didn't get the adjunct flavor off this, but it seems like it was fermented really low to hold back the estery character.

It's funny, I'm almost wondering if A-B is shooting themselves in the foot by offering this beer. I run beer tastings at my store and every week, I get more and more die-hard macro drinkers coming up to the booth and mentioning that they had tried Bud Ale and were eager to try different beers that they wouldn't have been interested in before. One of our "30pack/week" customers even brought home a 6 pack of Fuller's ESB!

On a sidenote, the recent Michelob offering have actually been promising, the Dunkelweizen is awesome and the rest are, at the very least, passable.

That being said, I'll probably never purchase Bud Ale, but I'll be damned if it isn't a step in the right direction for them.

If someone pissed in a glass and told you it was free beer, you would be doing yourself a Great "Disservice" by not drinking it!

I find it very interesting that A-B has decided to do this. Who is their target market for this? Considering that this beer was placed far away from the coolers of other macro swill - in the craft beer section - it seems to me like they are trying to appeal to craft beer drinkers. Does anyone think that by offering this product that they will lure craft beer drinkers to their main product line? I think not...

On the contrary - I think they are more likely to get their die-hard fans (who will drink anything with the Bud name on it) to experience a more flavorful product and perhaps develop a taste for these "other" beers. The whole thing might actually backfire as their core audience starts to experiment with some of the hundreds of craft brews available.

In retrospect, they would probably do better in the long run by continuing to buy up craft beers and adding them to their distribution profile.

I don't really follow you on this one. Why would it be a disservice to not drink pee? I think that would be a good move.

Have you tried it? It is far from "piss." Not saying it's incredible, but I don't play that, "hate the big company because they happen to make money selling a product that appeals to most people" game. I'll try any beer.

All I am saying is don't knock it until you try it. It's an unexpected good effort from a macro brewery.
