DuClaw Devil's Milk

On tap from growler at Bowie, Md. location. 2004 release party. Poured out a brilliantly clear, dark amber color, with a huge, sticky, tan colored head. Served warm, BTW. Yuck! I’ll rate it on it’s merits, though. Aromas are of alcohol, candi sugar, strong caramels, English toffee, malts, and macerated fruit. Tastes are of rum soaked raisins, pipe tobacco, old dusty barn, dark fruits soaked in rum, earthy hops, and alcohol. It doesn’t even attempt to hide it’s alcohol, which is 12.2% ABV this year. At least that’s what the email I got from the brewer says. Young, brash, and unrepentant. Rich, thick mouthfeel, almost chewy. Warming upon impact to the stomach. Finishes somewhat rough around the edges, but still a top notch effort on the style.
