Bear Republic Big Bear Black Stout

Mon Jun 20, 2005 6:51 am

22 oz. brown bomber bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a dark, roasty brown, with red highlights. Fast fading tan head slid back to a thin layer of bubbles on top of the brew. Aromas are of molasses & hops, right away. They must use a lot of blackstrap molasses in this brew, because the aroma is mostly of that. Slight maltiness in the background. Tastes of molasses (surprize!) and slight roasted malts. Hops don't hit you until you swallow. Sweet taste of caramel also present. Finishes somewhat sweet, but not cloying. Would go great with Godiva chocolate truffles.
