inspired by the last session, and reading about baltic porter in BCS, i went out and actively searched for an example of baltic porter and i found the utenos sitting right there where its been forever. this example is amazing as far as i can tell, it smells so sweet, but it finishes perfectly, not sweet at all and not dry either. color is not as dark as i would have guessed with the name, more the color of a schwartz....a black lager. 6.8% but i detect no alcohol. molasses, fig, raisin. the aroma might be the best part, i get a little D2 candi syrup in the nose. i will definitely be buying this beer again. the lager yeast, if that is what they used, adds a lightness to what would otherwise be a heavy beer. porter is usually filling, and a tad(dy) bit heavy, if that makes sense, but the lager yeast makes this beer more sessionable than robust porter or even brown porter.
