Beers to pick up in AZ(and take back to TX)?

Mon Mar 30, 2009 6:25 am

Anyone have suggestions for great beers to pick up while I'm in the Tucson area this weekend? I'm particularly interested in breweries that don't distribute in Texas. Thanks!

Well, I have no idea what you get, so I can't tell you what to take with you.

Yeah, that part was targeted more at folks from Texas that have been to Arizona. Still, I wouldn't put it past someone in the BN Army to have memorized brewery distribution maps ;)

Nimbus isn't too bad http://nimbusbeer.qwestoffice.net/ You can find their typical stuff in most grocery stores, but a trip to the brewery is always worth it - you will probably find some of their more obscure, barrel aged offerings.

And there's always Trader Joe's - see if you can get some of their Vintage Ale (belgian style, made by unibroue, but very reasonably priced). We don't have TJs here in Colorado, and whenever we visit the in-laws, a stop to stock up is in order.

Have fun

Ugh.... Nimbus. Not the best representation of AZ. If you can find some Four Peaks (especially Hop Knot, or their 8th Street), or Oak Creek (Nutbrown) - your TX buddies will thank you.

If you have a chance...stop into Barrio brewing (800 East 16th St) and try the Nolans Porter, a 2008 GABF Gold medal winner. Then head up to Plaza Liquor (2642 N Campbell Ave) for the best bottle selection in town.
